Inspired by Downtown Louisville's rich history, the Distil hotel transforms one of the city's most significant urban corner sites from a parking lot into a destination for travelers and locals alike.
Maintaining the character, charm and visual strata of history on the Civil War-era existing freestanding facades was a primary goal for the project. Treating these like a museum piece from decades long past, it was critical to imbue a sense of honor and respect with the introduction of a new architectural development.
Great care was taken to keep them approachable and visible from a multitude of perspectives and vantage points for every guest. To further root the project with historical context, cues have been taken from Main Street's cast iron facades and its bourbon-making past to inspire and define the material palate.
Embracing and celebrating Louisville's authentic historic qualities in a new and forward-thinking way, the Distil Hotel will be a catalyst to the city's future growth, with a respectful nod to its past.
